W3O were appointed as a Turnkey Contractor in April 2020 to design and build a Nuclear Medical Research Facility for NuMeRi at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital. This Public/Private project spent 18 months in design as the User Requirement Specification was built with the client and consultants appointed by W3O. Once the URS was finalised it took a further 9 months to finalise the design and be ready to build what is a world class facility. What has made this facility different other than the typical complexity of projects like this, was the fact that we started the project building on the 4th floor of an existing building. We have not yet heard of two Nuclear Bunkers being built on the 5th floor of a building anywhere in the world. Currently the one bunker has a Cyclotron being used for research purposes and the other will be used for commercial purposes once a partner comes onboard.
This project is a once in a lifetime project and is far and away the most complex project W3O have ever undertaken, the fact that we completed the project on time with minimal issues and a very happy client is a testament to the client, consultants and project team.
