Washirika 3 Oaks (Pty) Ltd – Mandela Day

For this year’s International Mandela Day, the staff of Washirika 3 Oaks (Pty) Ltd along with some of their children, contributed 67 minutes of their time to clear rubbish, rubble and foreign vegetation in the Wynberg and Bramley Park greenbelt which is the source of the Sandspruit River.

This area is one of two sources of water that feed into the Sandspruit River, which then flows into the Jukskei River, which feeds the Hartbeespoort Dam irrigation system which supplies 544km of canals – feeding 160 sq km of farmland. Most of the produce then goes back onto our plates as food. If we keep our waterways healthy, we stay healthy.

We would also like to thank Evergreen Waste Management, Athpack Paper & Packaging, DIY Depot Savoy, Sandton Butchery and the whole Washirika 3 Oaks team whom made it possible to make a difference.

As Nelson Mandela said: “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”
